It's that time again to drop a note to the membership for an update on Club News past and upcoming!!

First, Memorial Day has passed without many hitches. Through rain and storms the racers proceeded on. As the two days of racing concluded on Sunday May 29, 2011, the trophies went to:

1st Place: Andy Burkland and crew on Liberty,
2nd Place: John Layland and crew on Nice Aft
3rd Place: Dave Samuelson and crew on Drifter

There were also new members that took part in the race, so thank you to them for participating. I also need to thank Mark and Linda Westgate for setting the buoys, being committee boat, and getting the beautiful trophies that were presented. Thank you also to Emilia Burkland for cooking all of the meat and potatoes for the dinner Saturday night. Everything was wonderful!! Give yourselves a pat on the back as well for bringing up wonderful dishes for everyone to share! Another event that went great!!

We also have a busy schedule coming up in the next couple weeks so get some rest as it may prove to be exhausting for some. We start off with the 35th annual Rathbun Regatta to be held on June 25th & 26th, 2011. All of the information for this can be found on the web site and in the clubhouse. There will be a dinner catered by Emilia Burkland and others on Saturday June 25th at 6:00pm at the clubhouse. Make note that preorders for Regatta t-shirts need to be in by June 10th, so if your are wanting to place order, please have information to Merrill Hoopes (mandrh929@aol.com) .

Commodore’s week immediately follows however we are only having activities from Wednesday June 29th to July 2nd. Here is what is planned as of right now:

Wednesday June 29th- Bowling and dinner in Ottumwa
Thursday June 30th- 2 person Bocci Tournament at Louie's on the Lake (time to be announced later)
Friday July 1- Dock scavenger hunt
Saturday July 2- Breakfast with Commodore

Hope to see many of you there participating in some fun!!!!!!!

I would also like to let you know about the things we are getting accomplished at the clubhouse. Thank you to Arlene Sanderson and Emilia Burkland for moving and putting in place the mulch and also for planting flowers. A huge thanks to Merrill Hoopes for kick starting the gazebo and deck sealing project by doing all the power washing. He also washed and painted all the picnic tables with some help from Arlene Sanderson. Thank you to Mark and Linda Westgate for taking the time to prep and apply the sealer. Thanks to Mark Hoopes for getting more lights, fixing flagpole with the help of Vickie Wilkinson, for arranging for the North door to be readjusted and the shed door to be fixed. If I have forgotten a thank you to someone I apologize. However, I would like to point out that the praise is going to many of the same people; this is a club of many be sustained on the backs of a few. We will not be able to continue that way. We need everyone to do a little something. There is still a list in the clubhouse that needs volunteers to address. Please take some time out and participate in the bond that brings us together, the lake and the club.

Upcoming events for RYC:

June 25 & 26 - RYC 2011 Regatta
June 29 through July 2 - Commodores Week
July 16 - South Dock Party
July 29 - Parade of Lighted Boats
July 30 - North Dock Party

Be sure to take note that the date for the South Dock Party has been changed from July 9 to July 16.
